Osamdesete su obilježene najrazličitijim žanrovima. S jedne strane se pojavljuju Depeche Mode, The Cure, The Smiths, Pixies a s druge strane na scenu dolaze predstavnici heavy metala poput Iron Maiden, Motorhead, Judas Priest i mnogih drugih. Pojavljuju se Slayer, Antrax, Metallica a 1989. Nirvana izdaje svoj prvi album, Bleach. Tu su već i R.H.C.P. te Guns ‘n’ Roses.
Iako ih neće biti na mom popisu 80-ih su na sceni i Michael Jackson koji će samo Thriler prodati u nezamislivoj višemilijunskoj nakladi, pojavila se i kraljica popa Madonna, pa umjetnik nekoć znan kao Prince koji će kasnije prolupati, pa onda Duran Duran, Culture Club, Kajagoogoo..
Zbog nekoliko potpuno različitih glazbenih pravaca i nemogućnosti da sastavim kakvu takvu jedinstvenu top-listu objavljujem popis od 57 albuma koji će prezentirati onaj dio moje fonoteke koji pokriva period od 1980 – 1989.
